On a commanding hilltop site with views of the Rocky Mountain back range, this house in Niwot, Colorado draws its inspiration from grand Tudor estates. The exterior design is an intriguing composition of overlapping gables, executed in mortar washed stone and half-timber design. The forms are asymmetrically arranged in an informal, yet balanced manner. A parapet stone gable with Tudor arch surrounded in cut stone, gives the house proper entrance identity. Prototypical period detailing is prevalent such as the second floor areas that are cantilevered out over stone walls below, exposing the shaped ends of floor timbers.
