A dramatic site encompassing an entire canyon forms the backdrop for this unique home in Lyons, Colorado. The client, who has a collection of Monterey Revival furniture, also has an appreciation for the home designs of the late Wallace Neff – both popular with the 1920s Hollywood movie star set. Phil Pokorny was inspired by architectural elements from Neff’s work, and employed Spanish Revival materials and colors to design a house perfectly suited to the natural sandstone world of the canyon. Challenges of the site included not only a very restrictive building envelope, but also the need to mitigate the threat of potential rock fall from the dramatic the canyon wall formations.

Pokorny’s design solution creates three distinct outdoor experiences that maximize the site’s natural rugged beauty.
